Invasive Coptodon (Perciformes: Cichlidae) in southwest Turkey: Species identification using sequence data

چکیده
Nonnative cichlids (Coptodon zillii) have established populations in the Köyceğiz and Koca Lakes, located on west coasts of Mediterranean Turkey. Conflicting species names these lakes been reported for many years. We studied samples from current Coptodon Pecenek canal concerning existing GenBank data. estimated possible ancestral population using sequence data mitochondrial D-loop segment. Inter intra-population morphological variations were examined 25 six meristic characters. Haplotype analysis revealed three unique haplotypes Coptodon, indicating poor genetic diversity. Both maximum likelihood Bayesian trees showed that constitute a distinct subclade within zillii clade. This phylogenetic pattern indicates both founded by single invasion C. belong to species. Consistent with data, do not exhibit significant phenotypic divergence, though is slightly divergent. Intra-population variability may be due plasticity response habitat heterogeneity lakes.

A new species of Tripartiella (Ciliophora: Trichodinidae) from Aequidens tetramerus (Perciformes: Cichlidae) in north Brazil.
A new species of Tripartiella is described from the gills of the wild saddle cichlid Aequidens tetramerus in north Brazil. Wet smears of skin and gills of examined fish were air-dried at room temperature and impregnated with Klein's dry silver method for examination of the adhesive disc's structures and denticles. Total prevalence of parasitism was 65%. This ciliate is characterized as a small-...
متن کاملChromosomal variability in the wild ornamental species of Symphysodon (Perciformes: Cichlidae) from Amazon
Cytogenetic studies were conducted on three discus species which inhabit the Amazon in Brazil: Symphysodon haraldi from Manacapuru, S. aequifasciatus from Tefé and S. discus from Barcelos. All individuals showed 2n=60 chromosomes, most of them biarmed. No sexual chromosomal heteromorphism was verified. However, different karyotypic formulae, owing to the presence of subtelocentric chromosomes, ...
متن کاملFeeding of introduced species of Cichla (Perciformes, Cichlidae) in Volta Grande reservoir, River Grande (MG/SP).
Both species studied, Cichla cf. ocellaris and Cichla monoculus, fed mainly on fish, the first on Cichla spp., Plagioscion squamosissimus, and Tilapia rendalli, and the second, Cichla monoculus, on Cichla spp. Both diets indicated a strong correlation among the food items. Remarkable ontogenetic change was noted in both species diet: the young fed on crustaceans and insects while the adults fed...
متن کاملPhylogeny and biogeography of cichlid fishes (Teleostei: Perciformes: Cichlidae)
Family level molecular phylogenetic analyses of cichlid fishes have generally suffered from a limited number of characters and ⁄or poor taxonomic sampling across one or more major geographic assemblage, and therefore have not provided a robust test of early intrafamilial diversification. Herein we use both nuclear and mitochondrial nucleotide characters and direct optimization to reconstruct a ...
متن کاملIdentification of Invasive Species Using Remote Sensing and Vegetation Indices, (Case Study: Vazroud Rangelands, Iran)
Biological invasions form a major threat to the provision of ecosystems productsand services and can affect ecosystems across a wide spectrum of bioclimatic conditions. Therefore, it is important to systematically monitor the spread of species over broad regions. Ithas long been recognized that remote sensing and geographical information system couldcontribute to this capacity. This paper aims t...
